That their ulterior motive for getting someone to lose weight is more about gaining control of others than about helping the overweight people?

If you convince someone to do something, ANYTHING, then they are, in future, going to act as if you know best.

    This is control.

edit; The key element in any form of control is in doing so without the other person being conciously aware of the negative qualities of the control.

i don’t know. i guess i love controlling people then

I guess I just don’t realize how much I like to be in control >;]

If that person is overweight, they are unhealthy, same as those who are underweight. If someone I care about is doing something that is damaging to their health, like smoking or being too thin, I would tell them about my concern and advice them to change their habits. I don’t care for control.

I have *never* done this for a very simple reason. I absolutely hate it when people tell me to “eat something”. I DO eat. I eat quite a lot, as a matter of fact. I just happen to be naturally small/slender and I like to stay in shape so I exercise daily. I think it’s better to be a bit on the dainty side at my age (40-something - and that’s all yer gettin’ out of me) than to be overweight and have to worry about diabetes and other unpleasantness.

I will openly admit to snapping at a very large person or two in my lifetime (stay in your own seat, please *snarl*), but that’s only been on long flights (once to Germany and another time back home to Norway for a visit). When someone is spilling over into MY seat they either need to buy two seats or the flight attendants need to move me to first class. (Which they promptly did). THOSE people need to lose weight, period.

iT DEPENDS. iF PEOPLE URGE SOMEONE WHO IS ONLY LIKE 20 POUNDS OVERWEIGHT OR JUST CHUBBY TO LOSE WEIGHT THEN YES IT’S CONTROL, BUT IF PEOPLE URGE obese PEOPLE TO LOSE WEIGHT IT CAN BE BECAUSE THEY CARE. bUT THEN THERE ARE THE ONES WHO

  7. JD Says:

wow, that’s a very narrowminded view.
Did it ever occur to you that perhaps those who urge others to lose weight are trying to look out for the person who needs to lose it.
Obesity is not healthy - I mean really, have you been living under a rock? There are so many health conditions that result from obesity. It has nothing to do with controlling another person, at least not for me it isn’t, it’s more a matter of not wanting to see a person suffer needlessly if they have the power to change it.
