I need to strengthen my legs for a mountain hiking trip I have coming up. What weight / resistance exercise will strengthen the quadracep? I need to train for carrying a backpack down a step hill.

I would do squats and leg extensions. Don’t forget to do hamstring curls to balance out the strength.

You could go to the gym and use one of those resistance machine thingys. Or you could do a lot of wall-sits. Or you use a rowing machine. Or you could use a stair stepper. To make a stair stepper even better, you could carry a small backpack while you use it, but put weights or cans of soup or something in it. Or you could just do normal stair steps on the curb or inside your house, but with the backpack with weights in it. And go running. That helps build up your endurance.

Walking uphill, stair climbing ( even your own) and leg raises on a weight machine, don’t forget swimming, lunges, and squats too, good luck!!

do a seated leg press. there are machines where you sit and slide your shins behind a padded bar and lift your legs towards your body , its a great exercise.

an awesome way to strengthen your legs are to do wall sits. Sit up against the wall at a 90 degree angle with nothing under your legs for as long as you can
