I’m in the middle of crossroads on whether to go into the military or college but am getting in as best shape as possible so i can be ready for if i choose military. I understand in basic they have miles upon miles of road marches and running and tons of other physical activity. I ran 4 miles yesterday and 2 today and it feels like i got hit by a train. How can all these people go in there so out of shape and do hard exercise every single day?

As long as they meet certain weight/body fat %tage they can ship to bootcamp. once they get there if they cant meet standards they get dropped from training and go into a “class” for “fat kids” where all they basically do is exercise.

they probably go in the miltary for a good reason which motivates them to be determined.

Andre is pretty much correct.
Also keep in mind tha vast majority of kids shoeing up for basic are out of shape. They start you off easy and work up. Of course the better in shape you show up the better it will be on you.

at week one you begin PT at a much lower pace than that of the end of basic. over the training period pt is increased and get longer/harder each time. thin increases your fitness level in order to pass the final PT test. it certainly helps to be in shape before you go. i was and i sailed through basic with out any problem what so ever.

Because they have to.

your body will get used to it. just keep running and training and you’ll be fine.
by the way, you should definitely go to college. find one that has a ROTC program so you can do that and after you graduate college, you will be commissioned as a officer. military and college are not mutually exclusive.

Hey man I’m gonna tell you the truth. If you can run a mile your ahead of 80% of the guys you’ll see there. The army knows your not gi joe yet that’s what basic is for. I had a guy ib my platoon who lost 80 something pounds in our 26 week basic and ait. That being said the better shape you are in before you start the better off you’ll be. Your drill sgts will push you to your limit no matter what it is. trust me when your done you’ll be surprised. The army will get you in shape as long as you push yourself.

They are not expected to do the requirements needed to graduate on your first day. Just like any physical training program, they gradually increase it during the training so by the time you do graduate, you should be able to pass the physical requirements (if not, they have remedial training).
