I am considering the Atkins Diet, but I want a broad array of opinions before I jump into this. I ONLY want opinions from those who have completed the first phase, and the second. Negative opinions are welcome. Also, how long is the first phase of the diet?

I tried counting calories every day and avoid white grain at night and so far this past several weeks it has been working. Try this site if you are interested.
I have not tried Atkins but have a friend who lost a lot but gained it back as soon as she went back to her usual diet. Good luck and just remember don’t think of it as diet. You have to do it all your life.

I have heard it effective until you stop…i heard you gain it all back when you stop
if i were you i would just count calories…go to and if that doesnt work look up on google or your favorite search engine. and put in Diets or whatever
a diet i did that i loved was the water diet….drink two glasses of water before each meal and have a small glass of water or something small and very healthy for snack…this will fill you up…when you eat meals and snack make them sensible…dont eat Little Debbies after each glass…and be sure to get all of you servings of Dairy, Grains, Fruits, vegetables, and Meats

I did the Atkins a couple of years ago and had great success. I highly recommend that you buy the book. It explains everything. I found it to be the easiest diet to follow because on the Atkins, you either CAN or CANNOT have it. So there’s not much guess work.
The first phase (the “Induction” phase) lasts 2 weeks and that’s really the hardest part - detoxing from the sugar. Like any diet - WATER WATER and MORE WATER!

I asked my doctor about going on the AD & he told me to go for it. It was the best thing I could have done for myself. I was never hungry on this diet, in part to be able to eat a lot of protein, which stays with you longer. I bought the paperback book & read about the four phases. Then, I began Phase # 1, which can be followed for up to six months if you have a lot of weight to lose. I did, so I stayed on it for the six months & followed the eating plan to a T. I learned to drink water & got into a daily walking regime & it really helped with my weight loss. I also drank green tea (leaf form) daily & it helped in weight loss also. I lost 130 # in less than a year & have kept it off. I’m now maintaining now & have learned to eat smart & be healthy, for the first time in years. I lost 16 sizes & feel so good about myself & feel like a new person.
